YORK CITY, Pa. — Firefighters investigating strange noises coming from an oven found a gun in the broiler.

Firefighters were called to the 300 block of East King Street in York City at about 5:20 p.m. Sunday to investigate odd noises coming from a oven, said York City Fire Chief Steve Buffington. A woman who lived in the home said she heard popping noises.

Responders found a .38-caliber gun in the broiler pan underneath the oven, according to Buffington and York City Police.

The woman said she had no idea the gun was there, police said. Firefighters turned over the gun to police.

Buffington said he suspects the gun’s plastic grips were degrading due to heat from the oven.
