PARKTON, N.C. — A North Carolina assistant fire chief died Saturday at his firehouse from a suspected heart attack.
Assistant Chief James Walters, Sr., 57, collapsed while doing paperwork at the Parkton Volunteer Fire Department station. Department personnel performed CPR then took Chief Walters to a nearby hospital, where he died.
A visitation is planned for the 20-year fire veteran Thursday. A funeral will be held Friday.
