TRENTON, N.J. — A volunteer firefighter died last night on his way to a suspicious apartment blaze in the city.

David Kelty, 53, of Hamilton, was killed as the Bronco he was driving to the scene of a city fire slammed head-on into an SUV on the 1200 block of South Clinton Avenue a little before 9 p.m., said police spokesman Sgt. Pedro Medina.

Medina said the Bronco belonged to Signal 22 — a support staff company that gives firefighters warm refreshments when fighting fires and the cold.
