CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — Authorities are investigating two fires that broke out early Saturday on the same street where a blaze on July 17 destroyed the historic building housing the Majestic Theatre box office.

Firefighters who answered a call at the Sherman Haus about 3:15 a.m. noticed a second fire at the nearby Office City Express building, Fire Capt. Jeff Creed said yesterday.

The Sherman Haus, a vacant bar, is at 52 E. 2nd St. Office City Express is across the street at 25 E. 2nd.

One week ago, fire destroyed the three-story building housing the Majestic’s ticket and administrative offices at 33 E. 2nd. The historic theater across a courtyard was intact, but two other buildings, including the one housing Office City Express, were damaged.

“Investigators ... haven’t found a link in the fire on (July 17) to the ones on Saturday morning,” Creed said.

The fire at Sherman Haus caused extensive damage to the second floor. A couch on fire at Office City Express caused little damage Saturday.

No cause has been determined for any of the three fires, Creed said.

“It’s suspicious that you have two fires on the same street a couple of feet from each other going at the same time,” Creed said.
