BATON ROUGE, La. — A rescue equipment salesman en route to a sale was at the right place at the right time with the right tools when he rescued a woman from her burning car.
Using the Jaws of Life to pry open the vehicle, TNT Rescue Tools employee Chris Barrios saved Laura Hall from what could have been a fatal accident last Wednesday, after she crashed into a pole in Sorrento, La.
“I remember falling asleep and then waking up here [in the hospital],” Hall told the Associated Press.
When Barrios pulled Hall from the car only her boots were on fire and she sustained few injuries.
Barrios deflected praise, insisting the rescue was simply fate.
“If it wasn’t for all of us doing what we had done, she probably wouldn’t be here right now,” he told WBRZ. “I am not a hero.”
The supermarket where Hall worked started a fund to help pay for her medical expenses as she recovers and Barrios will receive a hero’s plaque once Hall is released from the local hospital.
