STOCKTON, Calif. — A man was arrested after allegedly hitting firefighters and trying to steal a fire truck.
CBS Sacramento reported that firefighters responded to a call about a garbage fire and were extinguishing two separate blazes when they noticed Victor Voroukoumanah, 30, acting erratically nearby, according to Battalion Chief Travis Winton.
Winton said Voroukoumanah then hit two firefighters and then tried to steal a fire truck.
“He got into the engine, got behind the steering wheel and was able to disengage the brake,” Winton said. “And (he) throttled the engine up as if he was going to take off.”
Firefighters then forcibly removed Voroukoumanah from the rig and kept him restrained until police arrived.
“The biggest thing we try to teach our folks is to try to remain aware of your surroundings, keep your eyes open to who is around you and what they’re doing,” Winton said.
