BEVERLY CITY, N.J. — A Beverly City volunteer firefighter and his wife allegedly sexually assaulted a teenage boy at their home last month, according to a joint statement from the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office the Beverly City Police.

Luis Morales-Sarmiento, 33, and Katherine Morales-Sarmiento, 22, of Beverly City, were charged with second degree sexual assault and third degree endangering the welfare of a child, the office said.

The couple was arrested Monday at the office and released Tuesday after their first appearance in Burlington County Superior Court, authorities said.

An investigation was launched after the teen’s mother reported the alleged assault to the police, the office said. Detectives alleged that Luis Morales-Sarmiento, who knew the teen, invited him to his home and took him to the couple’s bedroom, officials said. It was there that the alleged sexual assault happened, they said.

Anyone else who may have been victimized is encouraged to call the office’s major crimes unit special victim unit at 609-265-5035 and ask for a detective.
