AUBURN, Ala. — An Auburn firefighter has won the Republican primary for the Alabama House seat vacated with the felony ethics conviction of former speaker Mike Hubbard.
Unofficial returns from Tuesday’s balloting show Joe Lovvorn led a field of four candidates with 51 percent of the vote.
WSFA-TV reports Lovvorn will face Libertarian candidate Gage Fenwick in November. No Democrats are in the race.
Lovvorn says his 20 years with the Auburn Fire Department have helped prepare him to serve in the Legislature. He also owns a moving company.
The House District 79 seat was last held by Hubbard, who was convicted on multiple felony counts and removed from office in June.
