Burned firefighter after call: ‘I would do it again’

CORINTH, Miss. — Although a firefighter suffered first- and second- degree burns during a fire call, he said his resolve to give back remains.

Biggersville volunteer firefighter Brad Kershaw was battling a house fire last weekend when he suffered the burns on his wrist and forearm, reported WMC. After the fire was contained, Kershaw and other firefighters initiated a “salvage and recovery” of items in the house. Kershaw was attempting to collect family photos from a wall when a piece of smoldering roof struck him.

Despite his injuries, Kershaw said it will not discourage or hinder him from serving the community.

“I would do it again, but in a different way,” Kershaw said. “It sheds light on what we need to improve on as a fire community in the future so that people don’t get hurt.”
