CONCORD, N.C. — A firefighter who was diagnosed with cancer five years ago beat the odds and returned to work this week.
Firefighter Matt Sellers was diagnosed with a rare form of lymphoma and retired from the job he loved in 2011 after his doctor told him he had a 30 percent chance to live.
He underwent treatment and a bone marrow transplant. Late last year, Sellers’ doctor released him without restrictions; his first day back was Wednesday, WBTV reported.
“It’s the biggest blessing to know him. It’s the biggest honor to know him. And we are all just so happy that he is back today,” Lt. Melanie Jordan said.
