After a week of voting, the second round of the Cold Water Challenge Face-off guessing game has its winner! Lorraine Carli, who has been the face and voice of the National Fire Protection Association since 2006 as its vice president of communications, easily handled Battalion Chief Robert Avsec with a total of 83 votes versus his 68 votes.

Lorraine advances to the Fiery Four semi-final round.

For those new to the game, the face-off challenge is simple: vote for who you think took the challenge first; we’ll reveal the true order after the bracket is complete.

Our mission is also simple: give firefighters a reason to have a bit of fun and keep the challenge alive — and the associated donations made to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation.

Cast your vote below on which fire service leader you think completed the challenge first. At the end of the game, contest winners will be randomly selected and will receive a FireRescue1 T-shirt and challenge coin as a prize.

Chief Dennis Rubin has served as a company officer, command level officer, and fire chief in several major cities including Dothan, Ala., Norfolk, Va., and Atlanta. He’s also a frequent and regular contributing author to FireRescue1 and Fire Chief.

Rick Markley is the editor-in-chief of FireRescue1 and Fire Chief, a volunteer firefighter and fire investigator. He serves on the board of directors of and is actively involved with the International Fire Relief Mission, a humanitarian aid organization that delivers unused fire and EMS equipment to firefighters in developing countries.
