WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. — Washington Township firefighters’ attempt at a “cold water challenge” has landed them in some hot water, after a video of two trucks blasting and knocking down a firefighter with three high-powered water hoses was posted online.

The 16-second video — part of a “cold water challenge” making the rounds on Facebook that challenges nominated participants to jump in cold water and film it, or donate funds to a designated charity — caught the attention of fire district officials, who are in the process of disciplining at least a half dozen volunteer firefighters for the stunt, when it was posted on May 20.

Fire District Chief John Hoffman said the district acted as soon as officials saw the video, and sent out a press release condemning the actions and stating disciplinary actions will be taken after an internal investigation is completed. He declined to speak further about specific punishments, citing district policy to not comment on personnel issues.
