STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Tow trucks from across the five boroughs participated in the second annual “Hero’s for Heroes Run,” Saturday evening, across Staten Island, honoring first responders.
The Run, organized by the Mariners Harbor-based J&J Towing Company, started last year in amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
“We started it last year when people couldn’t go out,” said Juan Serrano, of Mariners Harbor and J&J Towing Company. “We got together and started delivering heros and drinks to the EMS, FDNY, precincts, and hospitals, as a thank you from the community.”
The event kicked off at 7 p.m. in Ocean Breeze, where the first stop was Staten Island University Hospital, Ocean Breeze, where tow trucks displayed American flags in honor of first responders.
Other stops along the way included the NYPD’s 122nd Precinct, New Dorp; FDNY’s Rescue 5, Grasmere; NYPD’s 120th Precinct, St. George; Richmond University Medical Center, West Brighton; NYPD’s 121st Precinct, Mariners Harbor, and the NYPD’s 123rd Precinct, Tottenville.
The tow trucks at the event were made up of companies from Staten Island, New Jersey, Brooklyn, Queens, and Long Island.
“Sometimes we don’t thank our essential workers and admire all the work they do for us,” said Serrano. “We aren’t working as much as they are, and they keep us running.”
Serrano said runs like this have also been completed in Long Island with tow trucks from across the Tri-State area.
