CHINO VALLEY, Calif. — A fire department chief said he received an apology from ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’ for using the department’s likeness in a skit about burning Trump hats.
The Sun reported that the show featured a skit involving an actor portraying a faux fire chief of Chino Valley Fire District giving the public advice on how to burn “Make America Great Again” hats.
The real Chino Valley Fire Department Chief Tim Shackelford was not pleased with the skit and said several community members complained about the department taking political sides.
“We are not a political organization,” Chief Shackelford said. “Our mission is to protect lives and property, and I am troubled by the video because it does not portray us in a positive, professional manner.”
Chief Shackelford posted a tweet saying he received a call from show producer Jill Liederman, who apologized for the skit and said it was purely for entertainment.
In the tweet, Chief Shackelford said Liederman was “very apologetic” and “offered to send a food truck out” to feed Chino Valley firefighters. Instead, Chief Shackelford said he suggested the show “support the family of the Cal Fire firefighter that was killed.”
