Ala. firefighter fired over KKK Facebook post

Flyers were distributed in the community over the weekend encouraging people to join the KKK

MARSHALL COUNTY, Ala. — A firefighter was fired after he made racist comments on Facebook in the wake of a Ku Klux Klan flyer distribution.

WFSA reported that KKK flyers began appearing on some yards in the city over the weekend asking people to join the club.

Josh Tidwell, a firefighter for Four C (Ala.) Volunteer Fire Department, was fired Monday night by the department’s board after commenting on Facebook about the KKK’s efforts.

“Hahaha hang all them [expletive] ... that’s what I think,” the post said.

Chief Raymond Bodine said Tidwell was a good firefighter, but an example had to be made.

“I hope that our people and other fire departments learn something from this as far as social media,” Chief Bodine said.

Tidwell issued a statement saying he regrets saying what he said and did not intend for the comment to be racist, according to the report.

“What was said was said, and I can’t take it back,” he said.
