OAKLAND, Calif. — Family members, friends and colleagues came together Saturday to say goodbye to a fallen firefighter who was fatally shot.
NBC Bay Area reported Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf applauded firefighter Jake Walter for his dedication to helping others at the memorial.
“Take today to rededicate ourselves to that bond of family, to honor Jake’s memory for what he exemplified,” Mayor Schaff said.
Walter was one of two firefighters shot at while off-duty. Walter died in the hospital, and the other firefighter was transported to the hospital in serious condition.
