NEW ORLEANS — Veteran New Orleans Fire Department member Gregory Howard’s body was flown back to the city from Memphis on Wednesday morning, four days after he was killed in a shooting as an innocent bystander.

Members of NOFD received Howard’s body at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport and escorted it to Boyd Family Funeral home in New Orleans East where relatives and officials were finalizing funeral arrangements.

NOFD chief Tim McConnell said it was difficult to comprehend how Howard, who drove a ladder truck at the city’s busiest firehouse, died in such a senseless act of violence.

McConnell also said it’s frustrating that no one has been arrested in the case, but he said he knows Memphis police was working hard to find a suspect.
