19-year-old firefighter killed in motorcycle crash

A car crossed the centerline and hit James Derrick Henson Jr.'s motorcycle head-on

CHEROKEE COUNTY, S.C. — A 19-year-old firefighter died in a motorcycle crash Sunday afternoon.

WYFF4.com reported that a car crossed the centerline and hit James Derrick Henson Jr.'s motorcycle head-on. The driver of the car was taken to a hospital in an unknown condition.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the Blacksburg Fire Department as well as all family and friends of firefighter Derrick Henson," the Cherokee Creek Fire Department posted on Facebook. "Derrick tragically lost his life today in a motor vehicle accident. A young life tragically cut too short. Rest easy, Derrick. Thank you for your service."

The crash remains under investigation.
