DUQUESNE, Pa. — A fire chief discovered his son had died while responding to a call.
WPXI reported that Duquesne Fire Department Chief Frank Cobb responded to a call about a gunshot victim and discovered his 15-year-old son had accidentally shot himself.
Chief Cobb said his son was handed the gun by someone else, and he was playing with it when he accidentally pulled the trigger.
“Dancing around with his friends, put his finger on the trigger, and accidentally pulled it. Shot himself,” he said.
Chief Cobb said they “tried to revive him, but he just couldn’t pull through.”
“Who hands a 15-year-old child a firearm?” he said. “It’s just those moments I could just never take back or get back. Last thing my son said to me was, ‘Dad, I’m going to school, getting back on the basketball team, my grades are up. I’m going to make you proud.’”
Chief Cobb urged others to remember that guns are “not a toy.”
“It’s a deadly weapon that will take your life,” he said. “And my advice to other parents is to sit down and have gun control with your kids. Talk to them.”
