LODD: Ala. firefighter dies of heart attack after fire

WEST BLOCTON, Ala. — A firefighter died of a heart attack Aug. 13 after responding to a structure fire earlier in the day.

U.S. Fire Administration reported that West Blocton Fire Department Lt. Dale Clinton ‘Clint’ Hardemon, 58, operated a fire pump at a structure fire and moved the hose around the structure and apparatus. He drove the fire apparatus back to the station with no problems.

Later in the afternoon, Lt. Hardemon was looking at a fire department boat with Fire Chief Joe McCool. He told Chief McCool that he was feeling lightheaded and became unresponsive after falling to the ground.

Chief McCool immediately began CPR and called 911. Lt. Hardemon was transported to a hospital and was airlifted to another facility. He was pronounced dead that evening.
