GEORGE, Wash. — The body of a King County firefighter missing since last weekend was found Saturday near the Wild Horse Monument, nine miles west of George.
A man scouting for deer found the body of Ken Ward, around 4:30 p.m., Grant County Sheriff’s officials announced Saturday in a news release.
The victim was a short distance from his vehicle, which was parked near the monument.
An autopsy determined that Ward died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to the Grant County Coroner’s Office.
Tim Perciful, spokesman for Mountain View Fire & Rescue said Ward, 43, lived in Renton and was very physically fit.
Ward had apparently met a friend in Roslyn and was heading to Spokane, where his aunt lives, Perciful said.
