MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — A firefighter-EMT was killed in a motorcycle crash Wednesday evening.
Jennifer Hanna, 37, was driving her motorcycle southbound when a Hyundai car going north turned left into her lane. The motorcycle crashed into the car, The Sun News reported.
Hanna, who was wearing a helmet, was transported to a hospital and later died of her injuries.
“It is with heavy sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of Firefighter/EMT Jennifer Hanna this evening,” North Myrtle Beach Fire Rescue (NMBFR) wrote on its Facebook page.
Hanna joined the North Myrtle Beach Department of Public Safety in 2013 as a communications/detention officer and started her EMT training in 2014.
She joined the fire rescue division in January 2015, just three weeks after her husband, firefighter/EMT Mitch Hanna of Horry County Fire Rescue, died in a motorcycle accident.
Hanna used her loss as an inspiration to be a “top notch firefighter,” NMBFR wrote. She was also a volunteer firefighter for Horry County Fire Rescue.
“She was an integral part of our team and her strength and courage went above and beyond many others as we grieved the loss of her husband,” the Facebook post continued. “She will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her. There will definitely be a void that can never be filled.”
The 26-year-old Hyundai driver was not injured, but a passenger in the car was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
