PUEBLO, Colo. — A veteran firefighter died after suffering a head injury from a fall at his home.
KKTV reported that firefighter Craig Elwell, with the Pueblo (Colo.) Fire Department, was not on duty at the time of the fall.
“It’s with a heavy heart we report the loss of one of our own. Godspeed brother, we will take it from here,” Pueblo Fire Department said in a Facebook post.
He was an organ donor, according to his daughter, Christy Lucero. She said two of his kidneys were donated.
“He was in the business of saving lives and he gave the ultimate gift of life!” Lucero said.
Elwell worked as a firefighter and a paramedic and was a couple of months short of his 15-year mark with the department.
Funeral arrangements are pending.
