NEW YORK — Thousands attended a funeral Tuesday for a firefighter who was killed while battling a blaze on a movie set.
NYC.gov reported that colleagues, family and friends filled St. Patrick’s Cathedral to honor FDNY Lt. Michael Davidson, who was remembered as a “cornerstone of his company.”
“Michael Davidson was a hero and people like Michael are the foundation of New York City,” Mayor Bill de Blasio said. “But for those who loved him, Michael is more than just part of the foundation; he was the cornerstone, the cornerstone of his company as a nozzle-man and of his community of Floral Park.”
“So many nights, Mike led his company into a fire, towards the danger, using his remarkable abilities and talents to extinguish the fire,” Fire Commissioner Daniel Nigro said. “It was clear from the very beginning of his career that Mike was special, and he showed it every day of his 15 years of brave service.”
Lt. Davidson died after suffering smoke inhalation while working the nozzle on a hose in a basement fire on the set of “Motherless in Brooklyn,” a film starring Edward Norton and Bruce Willis.
