NEW YORK — One of New York’s bravest saved a life recently by donating bone marrow, and on Wednesday, the hero firefighter got a chance to meet the recipient.

As CBS2’s Cindy Hsu reported, firefighter Michael McCauley of Staten Island was honored for the first time at the Downtown Brooklyn FDNY Headquarters Wednesday. Also for the first time, he got to meet Aaron Faulkner, the leukemia patient he saved with a bone marrow transplant.

Faulkner, of Pittsburgh, is a veteran U.S. marine who served in Iraq. In 2013 – while pursuing his bachelor’s degree in Christian Ministries – he was diagnosed with leukemia, WCBS 880’s Marla Diamond reported.
