33 graduate from Mass. volunteer firefighter program

The classes are held nights and weekends to accommodate the schedules of people from rural areas

EASTHAMPTON, Mass. — A special celebration is planned for 33 men and women graduating from the state’s call and volunteer firefighter training program.

The graduation ceremony is scheduled for Wednesday night at Easthampton High School.

The Call/Volunteer Recruit Firefighter Training program delivers a standard recruit training curriculum that meets national standards, but classes are held nights and weekends to accommodate the schedules of people from rural areas.

The 29 men and four women represent 18 fire departments in Amherst, Belchertown, Chesterfield, Dalton, East Longmeadow, Easthampton, Granby, Great Barrington, Hadley, Hampden, Hatfield, Monson, Palmer, Richmond, South Hadley, Southampton, Ware and Williamsburg.

Invited guests include representatives of the Massachusetts Fire Training Council, town officials, family members and department chiefs.
