6 die in massive fire, firefighters rescue 40

Firefighters fought the blaze for 6 hours

LAHORE, Pakistan — At least six people were burnt to death in a massive blaze here on Saturday night. Goods worth millions of rupees were burnt to ashes.

According to the rescue sources, fire broke out in a plaza at the Montgomery Road at around 11:00pm on Saturday night and also made inroads into four other blocks in the neighbourhood before the firemen could do anything, killing six people and injuring 11 others. Fire brigade and Rescue teams reached the sight and started rescue operation. At least 40 people were rescued from the buildings where 15 to 20 families were residing.

Fire fighters and rescue teams from other parts of the city were also called in to bring the fire under control. After four hours of fire fighting the blaze was somehow brought under control. The fire started due to short circuit.

However the fire was distinguished after about six hours Reportedly 14 fire tenders took part in the operation. The smoke was still clouding above the smouldering buildings on Sunday morning as the rescuers in searched for survivors or bodies, sources added.
