HOPKINS COUNTY, Ky. — For the second time this week, a Kentucky volunteer fire department station has burned.
Lex18 reported that the South Hopkins Fire Department building was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived at 11:15 p.m. Wednesday. Crews from five departments took about an hour and half to get the fire under control.
Fire officials said no one was inside the building when the fire broke out and there were no injuries, according to the report.
Fire Chief Darwin Rideout said it’s too early to say what caused the fire, according to the report. There were five trucks inside the building, and the loss could eclipse the $1 million mark.
Volunteer fire departments from around the area are figuring out how to pick up the slack and cover the district.
Earlier this week, Mt. Eden’s fire station burned to the ground. Mt. Eden is about 170 miles from Hopkins County.
