City of Prescott names Dennis Light as fire chief

Dennis Light hopes to return the department to a sense of normalcy following the deaths last summer of 19 Granite Mountain Hotshot crew members

PRESCOTT, Ariz. — Prescott has named Acting Yuma Fire Chief Dennis Light as the city’s permanent fire chief.

The Associated Press reported that Prescott officials announced Friday that Light had officially accepted the position.

Light said he hopes to return the department to a sense of normalcy following the deaths last summer of 19 Granite Mountain Hotshot crew members, according to the report.

Light has been assistant chief of operations for the Yuma Fire Department for 12 years, according to the report. He became interim fire chief in May when the department’s chief departed.

Eric Kriwer had been filling the role of Prescott fire chief since Dan Fraijo stepped down in November, according to the report.

Light is expected to start his new role sometime in mid-June.
