OKAY, Okla. — Four members of Okay’s volunteer fire department have resigned or retired in protest because “they don’t agree with what’s going on at City Hall,” acting Fire Chief Payden Metzger said.

Metzger also said that firefighters didn’t know what was going on at City Hall and were “trying to figure that out.”

The incident that caused the split involved who would control purchasing requisitions, said Mayor Brad Mathews. In the past, the fire department had two purchasing requisition officers, Fire Chief Terry Gorman and Assistant Fire Chief Tony Fielder. Gorman retired, and Fielder resigned along with two other firefighters, Metzger said.
