Fire service icon Harvey Eisner dies of heart attack

He was an avid firefighting photographer, an honorary FDNY assistant chief and also Firehouse Magazine’s long-time editor-in-chief

TENAFLY, N.J. — Firehouse Magazine Editor-in-Chief Emeritus, former Tenafly (N.J.) Fire Chief and honorary FDNY Assistant Chief Harvey Eisner died of a heart attack Thursday night.

Eisner, 59, started as a photographer for Firehouse Magazine in 1976 and worked his way up the ladder to become editor in 1982. He served as the fire chief for the Tenafly Volunteer Fire Department for 12 years.

He also mentored hundreds of firefighters and officers while serving as the conference coordinator of Firehouse Expo and Firehouse World.
