ELIZABETHTON, Tenn. — Conley Jones plans to keep answering the alarm as a volunteer firefighter, but after four decades, he is going to assume a new job.
Jones has served as chief of the West Carter County Volunteer Fire Department since he was first elected in June 1971. “I have been chief for 44 years and now I am going to be the videographer,” Jones said.
His last day as chief will be Saturday, March 21 — the eve of his 83rd birthday. The department will throw a cookout that Saturday at 5 p.m the fire hall.
