3 burned in Wash. van explosion

Bellevue Police and Fire Department staff responded; the victims suffered serious burns

BELLEVUE, Wash. — A stalled van near a service station in east Bellevue exploded and burned today, sending two men and one woman to Harborview Medical Center with burns. There were no other reports of injuries.

Bellevue Police and Fire Department staff responded to a 911 call at 2:17 p.m. at Kamber Road, west of 145th Place Southeast. The Chevron station is located about one mile north of Bellevue College.

Initial reports are that the driver was trying to start the Ford Econoline van when the explosion occurred. It rolled about 100 feet down Kamber Road before coming to a stop. The three people suffered serious burns. Their names have not been released.

Police and fire officials dont yet know the cause of the explosion, which is under investigation.
