RICHMOND, Va. — Richmond police are investigating whether two children injured Monday night in a possible hit-and-run accident were struck by a Richmond Fire Department vehicle.
The incident occurred shortly after 7:30 p.m. in the 1200 block of Westover Hills Boulevard in South Richmond. Police said the injured children were among a group of kids riding bicycles along Westover Hills Boulevard as heavy rain fell.
The children were taken by the Richmond Ambulance Authority to CJW Medical Center’s Chippenham Hospital. Their conditions could not be determined, but officials said their injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.
Crash-scene investigators last night were trying to determine how the children came into contact with the vehicle, which apparently did not stop at the scene.
Fire Department spokesman Shawn Jones said late Monday that he was told by police that a fire department vehicle may have been involved in the accident. He said officials were reviewing dispatch logs to determine what, if any, fire vehicle may have been involved.
