Firefighters block woman joyriding in stolen ambulance

The woman stole the ambulance to get attention from police

KEY WEST, Fla. — A tourist in Fla. is facing grand theft charges after stealing an ambulance and taking it for a joyride to gain police attention.

Crystal Dawn Clampitt, 22, stole an $80,000 ambulance early Sunday morning, according to a Key West Police report.

The report said that Clampitt had arrived from N.C. the day before with a friend but couldn’t find her.

In an attempt to get “the attention of law enforcement,” the report said, Clampitt stole the ambulance from near Key West’s popular Duval Street.

Police saw the vehicle driving with its emergency lights on and no siren shortly after receiving a call that an ambulance was stolen.

Officers started chasing the ambulance when a Key West Fire Department fire truck got in front of the ambulance and blocked it.
