PORTLAND, OR – The Met Maltese II is the newest USAR and Wildland addition to the LaCrosse fire boot lineup. Made in the USA, the Met Maltese II offers outstanding protection, durability and comfort for the most intense environments; the boot comes loaded with safety features that raise it above the competition.
USAR and Wildland Firefighters can attest to the dangers of working in icy and slippery environments. Typically, an outsole will become a block of hardened rubber upon exposure to cold climates, greatly reducing its effectiveness. In order to combat this, LaCrosse has created the Met Maltese II with Vibram’s® Fire and Ice outsole compound. The compound will resist the chemical changes that occur when the material goes from a warm climate to cold, ensuring the boot is slip resistant in any temperature. This feature alone makes the Met Maltese II a multipurpose boot, from the hot and humid summers of Mississippi to the sub-zero temperatures of a Fairbanks’ winter.
The protective steel toe meets or exceeds ASTM/ANSI specifications with a featured abrasion-resistant urethane-impregnated counter pocket and double layer toe cap to ensure toe safety on every call. And with updated certifications (NFPA certified to USAR-1951 and Wildland/1977), rest assured that the Met Maltese II is of the highest safety standards.
The stichdown construction of the Met Maltese II not only provides a wider and more stable base, but it also reduces foot fatigue, making it the perfect boot for any hard-working firefighter. Reflective material from 3M® gives added visibility in low light conditions while the breathable, 7.5 oz. fire resistant struck-through leather provides a safe environment no matter what stomping conditions.
Among the dangers in firefighting, the potential for sole puncture injury is a serious threat to those in the field. The typical precaution against this danger is simply using a heavy, inflexible steel midsole, however the Met Maltese II is constructed with a technically advanced Flex-Shield II midsole to take lightweight safety to the next level. Made up of four layers of high-density woven polyester, the Flex-Shield II midsole not only passes the NFPA’s puncture test, it exceeds it.
The Met Maltese II is available in men’s sizes 5-16 (half sizes to 13) and narrow, medium and wide sizes to 15; women’s sizes 5-10 in narrow, medium and wide, whole and half sizes available.
