VICTORIA, Australia — Firefighters have threatened legal and industrial action over what they say is outdated and inadequate protective equipment, claiming it places lives in danger.

A delegation of about 20 members of the United Firefighters Union staged a protest outside Victorian government offices yesterday.

The protesters blocked one end of Treasury Place with one of three fire trucks and demanded to speak to Emergency Services Minister Bob Cameron.

Leading firefighter Richard Zapart, 56, remains in an induced coma in hospital after sustaining burns to 45 per cent of his body while fighting a blaze in a Yarraville furniture factory on Friday.
