Michigan Approves Institue Homeland Security Course

DAYTONA BEACH, Fl. - The Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES) and the Emergency Telephone Services Committee approved and registered the APCO Institute “The Telecommunicator’s Role in Homeland Security” as an is-service training course. The MCOLES must approve all Telecommunicator training for the State of Michigan.

“The Telecommunicator’s Role in Homeland Security,” based on the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) National Incident Management System (NIMS), is designed to educate Telecommunicators of their vital role in recognizing terrorist incidents, especially while they are in progress.

Terrorism events require specialized actions and Telecommunicators will have to deal with a new set of circumstances, far different from the average structure fires, vehicle accidents and even HAZMAT incidents. This course will assist the Telecommunicator in determining that a possible terrorist event has occurred and the appropriate response.

“The APCO Institute is proud to provide this vital training to the State of Michigan and looks forward to working with its Telecommunicators in ensuring the state’s preparedness,” APCO Institute Director Candice Solie said.
