FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP, N.J. — Six girls were trapped for 45 minutes in a school bathroom Wednesday when the door lock broke and maintenance staff couldn’t release them, Sgt. Philip Rizzo of the Franklin Township Police said.

At about 5:45 p.m., six girls aged 14- and 15-years-old entered the girl’s bathroom at the Franklin High School at 500 Elizabeth Avenue after their dance class had completed, Rizzo said.

The locking mechanism on the door apparently malfunctioned and trapped the girls inside the bathroom, Rizzo said.
