ARLINGTON, Texas — The Texas Rangers issued an apology late Monday after a photo circulated on social media showing beer cans and bottles piled onto the Rangers Fans statue dedicated to the Brownwood firefighter killed in a 2011 ballpark fall and his young son.
The club said that a high volume of tailgating fans attempting to bring prohibited items into the park placed them on the statue, as well as at other entrances. Cleaning crews couldn’t keep pace, but were able to quickly remove the items from the statue dedicated in 2012 to Shannon Stone and his son, Cooper.
Just not quick enough to prevent a photo being snapped.
“The Rangers certainly regret and apologize for the trash that accumulated on the Rangers Fans statue at the home plate gate this afternoon,” the club said. “The Rangers Fans statue is a cherished component of Globe Life Park in Arlington, and the club will make certain this situation does not occur in the future.”
