On March 17–18, the Deep Water Chapter of the Fraternal Order of Leather Heads Society (F.O.O.L.S.) in conjunction with the Chesapeake (Va.) Fire Department, will hold a community-wide black-tie benefit/head-shaving event to benefit the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to raising awareness of and funds for conquering childhood cancer.
Festivities begin at approximately 1800 HRS on March 17 at the Norfolk Waterside with a formal dinner hosted by the F.O.O.L.S.’ Chapter. Money raised through this event will go to both St. Baldrick’s and to a gift fund for a Chesapeake firefighter’s daughter, who is currently struggling with cancer.
At approximately 0900 HRS the following morning, participants who have collected donations for St. Baldrick’s will shave their heads bald in a show of solidarity for children with cancer, who typically lose their hair during chemotherapy.
Many departments throughout the country participate in St. Baldrick’s events, and there are many ways to donate to the organization’s cause. If you would like more information, or if you or your department would like to hold a St. Baldrick’s event, visit www.stbaldricks.org.
