IAFC’s Executive Communications System Advisor Bill Pessemier will be addressing first responders at the upcoming National Capitol Prepared Conference in Washington DC on April 5. As the former fire chief from Littleton, Colo., Pessemier will reference his valuable experience during the Columbine High School tragedy while educating fire departments on how to establish interoperable communications between and among first responders. He will be joined on the podium by George Williamson Foresman, Under Secretary for the Preparedness Directorate at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and Leonard J. Marcus, PhD, Co-Director National Preparedness Leadership Initiative, Harvard School of Public Health and The Kennedy School of Government.
Sponsored by Sprint/Nextel, the program will be held from 9 am to 2 pm on April 5 at the JW Marriott Hotel in Washington, DC. For more information, go to http://nextel.andlogistix.com/SPRINTPREPARED/WDCDefault.asp
The IAFC has partnered with Sprint/Nextel in our continued effort to help find effective ways to make secondary fire service communications interoperable. Many departments are finding success in integrating their Nextels into their primary consoles to off-load administrative communications and other non-primary functions. They are also using Nextels for paging, patient tracking, and GPS for apparatus management. The IAFC encourages all departments in the area to attend this worthwhile program.
