EMMITSBURG, MD – Despite the impending Department of Homeland Security shutdown of the U.S. Fire Administration offices in Emmitsburg, MD, the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF) staff will keep working, thanks to the generosity of the Emmitsburg Ambulance Company. Unless an agreement is reached in Congress, the staff will move to the temporary location on Thursday, February 26 and will be available through email, phone and fax.
The Foundation Headquarters and National Fallen Firefighters Memorial are located on the campus of the National Emergency Training Center, property of DHS. Visitors will not be allowed on the campus to see the National Memorial or attend previously scheduled NFFF meetings. Alternate sites will be arranged for those meetings and attendees will be contacted. Updates will be provided through the Foundation’s website, www.firehero.org, and through social media.
“We are extremely grateful to our wonderful neighbors at the Emmitsburg Ambulance Company who have opened their doors and made space available for our staff,” said Chief Ron Siarnicki, executive director of the NFFF. “The administration and staff at the Ambulance Company want to ensure that all we do to honor the nation’s fallen firefighters, assist their survivors and work to prevent line of duty deaths and injuries continues despite the challenges occurring on Capitol Hill.”
NFFF also moved its offices to Emmitsburg Ambulance Company during the 2013 Memorial Weekend, the last time the federal government shutdown.

About the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF)
The United States Congress created the NFFF to lead a nationwide effort to remember America’s fallen firefighters. Since 1992, the non-profit foundation has developed and expanded programs to honor fallen fire heroes, assist their families and coworkers in rebuilding their lives, and work within the fire service community to reduce line-of-duty deaths and injuries.
