ROCHESTER, N.H. — Four people were left homeless after a fire severely damaged a residence yesterday morning at 20 Watson Drive.
The fire started just before 9:30 a.m. in a one-story section of the Cape-style home next to the driveway, according to Rochester Fire Department Capt. Mark Avery. He said the fire marshal is still investigating how it started.
Two people were home at the time, heard the smoke detectors, saw smoke, grabbed their dog and got out of the residence, he said.
Firefighters had the fire under control in about half an hour, Avery said.
The fire destroyed the one-story section of the house in the East Rochester neighborhood, while the two-story section of the house suffered heavy smoke and heat damage and some fire damage along the peak of the second-story roof, Avery said.
The house was uninhabitable, he said. No one was injured in the blaze. The Durham Fire Department assisted with the fire.
