BLISSFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A Michigan fire captain was killed in a vehicle crash Tuesday while responding to assist with a barn fire.

Blissfield Township Fire Department Capt. Joseph Gallo, 34, was driving in a car with emergency lights activated when he lost control on a gravelly portion of road, causing the vehicle to roll over, according to WTOL.

Gallo was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead as a result of his injuries. Officials said he was the only person in the vehicle at the time of the crash and was not wearing a seatbelt.

The Lenawee County Accident Investigation Team is investigating the crash.
