N.C. fire investigator dies after months-long cancer battle

ASHEVILLE, N.C. — Asheville Fire Department Investigator Dewayne Fender died last week following a 13-month battle with cancer, Fox Carolina reported Tuesday.

Fender is survived by his wife, two daughters and seven grandchildren, the Citizen Times reported.

The department stated on Facebook that Fender joined the department in 1994 and took pride in community service.

“His death leaves an emptiness among his fire department family that will never be filled,” a post read.
