FORSYTH COUNTY, N.C. — A longtime Gumtree Fire & Rescue firefighter has died from COVID-19.
Gary Butner, 55, died Saturday after battling COVID-19 for several weeks.
Butner had served as a firefighter for more than 30 years.
“Our department has lost a great man due to COVID,” Gumtree Fire & Rescue posted. “Gary Butner was such an asset to the community and our department. You will be missed my friend. God speed.”

A funeral for Butner is scheduled for March 4.
