LONG ISLAND, N.Y. — Former Hauppauge Fire Chief Stephen A. Feron, a member of the Suffolk County Urban Search and Rescue Team, died Saturday.

Feron died in the morning during water rescue drills, the New York Post reported.

The Central Islip Hauppauge Ambulance Company transported his body to the Medical Examiner’s Office, according to the fire department.

Feron was a second-generation chief for Hauppauge. His father, who also was named Stephen, served as chief from 1985 to 1988.
