ERIE, Pa. — Erie Firefighter Michael Smith, 47, died of occupational cancer, the local union posted Sunday.
Smith joined the department in 2005.
“Mike stepped up to drive and filled in as an acting Lieutenant whenever needed. Mike was a hard-working firefighter always going above and beyond no matter what was asked of him,” Erie Firefighters IAFF Local 293 posted.
Smith is survived by his wife and their dog.
