Detail your brief initial report

Tips

By Mark van der Feyst

It is important for firefighters and officers en route to mentally prepare for the incident. First arriving firefighter or officer use the brief initial report, a radio report of what’s happening upon arrival, as a way to help them prepare. This report must be concise and to the point.

Make sure to paint a picture for the other responding crews. Use proper terminology, detail the type of building involved, smoke conditions, visible flames and rescue opportunities.
